MADELENE A. BROWN - CUBA, NY - Mrs. Madelene A. Brown, (nee AMSDEN) 93, formerly of 8 Stone St. died Wednesday (Nov. 12, 1997) at Cuba Memorial Hospital, Residential Health Care Facility after suffering a stroke. She was born Sept. 3, 1904, on Jackson Hill in the Town of Cuba, a daughter of Fred and Maud M. Streater Amsden. On Dec. 24, 1941, she married Alvah F. Brown who died Dec. 2, 1995. A lifelong resident of Cuba, Mrs. Brown graduated from Cuba High School and Elmira College, the class of 1926. She began teaching mathematics at Cuba High School in 1931 following the death of her first husband, Shrley B. Cole, in 1930. Mrs. Brown retired from active teaching at Cuba High School, now Cuba-Rushford Central School, in the mid 1960s after a 40-year teaching career. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cuba and the former Presbyterian Women's Association. Mrs. Brown is survived by a daughter, Shirley Cole (Glenn) Sacra of Wayland, Mass; four grandsons; and 11 great- grandchildren. Friends were received on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McIntosh Funeral Home (Nicholson Chapel), 24 Genesee Parkway in Cuba. A memorial service will be held on Saturday (Nov. 15, 1997) at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, East Main Street in Cuba. The Rev. Jon Rieley-Goddard, interim minister, officiated. Burial was in Cuba Cemetery in Cuba. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church East Main Street, Cuba, N.Y., or to Seven Lakes Girl Scout Council, 300 Route 318, Phelps, N.Y., 14532.

AMSDEN. Loomis H. Amsden, 79, of West Main Street, Rockville, died Wednesday (Jan. 1, 1997) at Rockville General Hospital. He was the husband of Winnifred (Maillet) Amsden. He was born in Fort Fairfield, ME and moved to Rockville in 1965. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Amsden was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Vernon. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Santini Developers as a maintenance supervisor, Vernon. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Loomis H. Amsden, Jr. of Tolland; a daughter, Bonnie Towle of Wilbraham, MA; a brother, Harold L. Amsden of Vernon, ten grandchildren and a great grandson. He was predeceased by two daughters, Gail Marie and Judy Ann Amsden. The funeral will be Saturday, Jan. 4, 9 a.m., St. John's Episcopal Church, 523 Hartford Turnpike, Vernon with the Rev. James L. Gary Glen Amsden Nov. 16, 1955 - Dec. 2, 1998 Olivia, MN - 43, of Olivia, formerly of Comfrey, died Wednesday at his home in Olivia. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Comfrey with the Rev. Joe Steinbeisser officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m., with 4:30 p.m. rosary and 7:30 p.m. parish prayer service, today at Sturm Funeral Home in Comfrey, and 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. He was born Nov. 16, 1955, in Comfrey, to Leslie and Neola (Schunk) Amsden. In June, 1978, he married Rebecca Knoll in New Ulm. They later divorced. He lived in Mentor and was employed building trailer homes in Red Lake Falls. They moved to Olivia in the mid-1980s where he was employed as a maintenance man by Renville Sugar Beet Factory. He is survived by his sons: Chad Amsden (and special friend Jodi Woltjer) of Renville, Jeremy, Benjamin and Andrew of Olivia; special friend Lisa Ryan of Olivia; parents, Leslie and Neola Amsden of Comfrey; brothers Ken (and Christine) Amsden of Comfrey, Mike Amsden of Cross Lake; sister Rose (and Randy) Haseleu of Springfield; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

THE ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL ONLINE 21 Nov 1998 - Edgar A. Amsden, 79, a retired Albuquerque businessman, passed away Friday, November 20, 1998. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Lois; son, Edgar and his wife, Ginny of Albuquerque; daughter, Martha Paynter and her husband, William of Las Vegas, Nevada; step-son, William Payne and his wife, Deborah; step-daughter, Nancy Gherardi and her husband, Robert; brothers, Thomas of Norman, Oklahoma; Henry of Wichita, Kansas; ten grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha; brother, Floyd of Wichita, Kansas. Mr. Amsden was born in Wichita, Kansas and moved to Albuquerque in the early fifties. He owned and operated A. & S. Rentals until his retirement. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 461, Ducks Unlimited, and the N.R.A. He was an avid fisherman and had many fond memories of camping and hiking with his family and the Boy Scouts. A very special thanks to the staff of Sandia Manor Care, Arcadia Special Care Unit, and Family Hospice for the loving care Ed received over the past seven months. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held Monday, 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. N.E., with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. WARREN - Memorial services will be at a later date for Mrs. Roselma Amsden, 91, of 438 N. Park Ave., who died, apparently of a stroke, Saturday in St. Joseph Health Center. Mrs. Amsden, also known as "Rose, " was born June 16, 1907, in Champion, a daughter of John and Mary Jane Smith McCracken, and resided in Cleveland before coming to Warren in 1970. She was founder, owner and operator of the Paramount School of Dance in Cleveland. She enjoyed dancing and traveling, especially with the USO during World War II. Her husband, Gilbert, is deceased. She leaves two sons, Robert H. of Newton Falls, and Raymond M. of Avon Lake; eight grandchildren, including Douglas Amsden, whom she reared and with whom she made her home for the past several years; and five great-grandchildren. Two brothers are deceased. There are no calling hours. The Roberts-Clark Memorial Home is handling arrangements. Contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Virginia Amsden, a resident of Castro Valley passed away on Nov. 19th after a long
illness. Born in Palo Alto on May18, 1924. Virginia was the daughter of the late
Lindsay and Doris Gray. Virginia spent most of her life in San Mateo County. She is
survived by five children, 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Her oldest son
predeceased her. Donations in her memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation or favorite
charity.

WORCESTER -- Marybeth R. (Rowen) Amsden, 41, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, in the Memorial
Hospital, following a long illness. She was the wife of James E. Amsden. They were
married nine years. Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of Ann (Bulger) Janusis,
Hudson and the late John Rowen. She was raised in the Framingham and Natick area,
returning to Worcester 10 years ago. She was an administrative secretary for Quantum Corp.
in Shrewsbury for five years, retiring two years ago due to illness. Previously she worked
at Digital in Hudson for 18 years. She graduated from South High School, and attended
LaSalle Junior College, Emmanuel College, Northeastern University, and Clark University.
She is survived by two stepdaughters, Valerie D. Amsden and Pamela J. Amsden, both of
Sterling; two brothers, John Rowen of Hudson, and Christopher Rowen, of Londonderry, Vt.;
one step-brother, Charles
Janusis, of Hudson; nieces and nephews, and a godson. The funeral service will be held
Monday at 9:15 a.m. from Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 1 West Boylston St., West Boylston,
with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester St., West
Boylston. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, West Boylston. Calling hours are Sunday
from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

GRAFTON-- Sonya Anne (Richards) Amsden, 65, of 51 North Main St., North
Grafton, died yesterday in Memorial Hospital, Worcester, after a three-year
struggle with ovarian cancer. Her husband of 40 years, Kenneth M. Amsden
Sr., died in 1994. She leaves two daughters, Linda E. Amsden of Shrewsbury
and Anne E. Amsden-Matson of the Jefferson section of Holden; a son, Kenneth M. Amsden Jr.
of North Grafton; a brother, Basil C. Richards of Worcester; four grandchildren; nephews
and nieces. She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of Basil and Hannah (Makie)
Richards, and moved to North Grafton 27 years ago. Mrs. Amsden worked several years at New
England Canteen Service, North Grafton. She enjoyed painting landscapes in oils and
watercolors. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Robert C. Roney Funeral
Home, 152 Worcester St., North Grafton. Burial will be private. A calling hour is 10 to 11
a.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made

CEDAR FALLS--Ruth Reed Amsden, 94, of The Western Home, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the home
of natural causes. She was born Aug. 6, 1905, in Calhoun County, daughter of Herman
and Jessie McDonald Sylvester. She married Ralph Wheeler in July 1927. They later
divorced. She married Harry Reed on Nov. 4, 1933. He died in September 1961. She married
Irving Amsden on April 28, 1963. He died Oct. 13, 1984. Survived by: two sons, Jack
Reed of Cedar Falls and Dennis Reed of Winterset; a stepson, Charles Amsden of Phoenix,
Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Clara Mae Flack of Colo; and six grandchildren, seven
great-grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: three brothers, Vern, Merle and Donald Sylvester; and two sisters,
Eva Cox and Gladys Karn.
Graveside committal services: 1:30 p.m. Friday at Lanesboro Cemetery, Lanesboro. There
will be no visitation. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ashland - Joyce A. Amsden, 78, died March 19, 2000, at her home.
Born in Lancaster on Nov. 10, 1921, she was the daughter of Walter and
Annie (Pascal) Morton. She grew up in Gilman, Vt., attended Lincoln High School and
was a resident of this community for 60 years. A homemaker, she was a member of the choir
at the Ashland Free Will Baptist Church, a member of the Ashland Women's Club and the
Rebekahs. She was an avid collector of unusual clocks.
She and her husband, Roland, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last month. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Gregory Amsden of Pennfield, N.Y., Roger Amsden of Gilford and Paul Amsden of Holdernes; two daughters, Brenda Brunt of Bridgewater and Arlene Jones of Akron, Ohio; a brother Walter Morton of Littleton; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and 16 nieces and nephews.

Nancy E. Amsden, 53, of the 3400 block of Northeast 44th Avenue, died of lung cancer
Thursday at Broadlawns Medical Center. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Elm
Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Amsden had lived in Des Moines all her life. She was a self-employed child-care provider. Surviving are a husband, Lane "Joe"; two sons, Joseph Todd and Jason Luke, both of Des Moines; a daughter, Jodi Lynn Seymour of Lamoni; her mother, Patty E. Riley of Des Moines; four sisters, Jerry Rae Oboyl, Mary Blakely and Anne Richardson, all of Des Moines, and Helen Bernard of Texas; four brothers, Bod Feidof Altoona, Gary Reid and Bob Riley, both of Des Moines, and Jerry Riley of Eufuala, Okla.; and two grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Hamilton's Funeral Home.
