BIOGRAPHY: Nancy Colleen Munro talked to John on 24 November 1977,when he said he was born in New Haven, married Florence Hoyt on 10September 1923 in Cleveland, OH. On 11 September, he and Florenceleft for California. They rented a Chevy and a room with a kitchen inLos Angeles, CA. John said that Florence started right in makingchocolate cakes! John had a variety of jobs. Most of them involvedselling things like rugs or cars. After living in Los Angeles, theybought a lot in Maywood, CA and later traded that for one in Pomona,CA. The lot in Pomona had a house on it that was built in 1895, theaddress was 737 Lewis Street. Their third son, James Reuben was bornin that house in 1935. John worked for 9 years for the GeneralTelephone Co. in Pomona, CA and retired in 1962 on his birthday,December 31st. He enjoyed lawn bowling and traveling in retirement.John's brother, James A. Munro Jr. said at one time that after WorldWar I, John worked at Marshall Field Department Store in the rugdepartment; worked in an electrical supply house in New Haven with anArmy friend for a short time; and worked in a General Motors assemblyplant at
Tarrytown, NY before going to Cleveland, OH for a year or two.
