Data from Loren, Riney and Hill. Thomas died before the family's 1785migration to KY. According to Pat Obrist: O'Rourke's "MarylandCatholics on the Frontier" has this Ed. Jr. dying before themigration, his wife Sarah Shircliff took their son Thomas III toPerry Co. MO
Hill supplied this from the same publication. "Thomas Riney II wasdeceased by 19 Jan 1793, evidently in St. Mary's County, MD, where anaccount of his estate was filed by Clement Hayden and Sarah Hayden,administratrix. Three children, Thomas, Mary and Nancy Ann, werenamed. Of these children, Thomas Riney III was usually known asThomas Edward
Riney; Mary became the wife of Zachariah Layton; and Nancy Ann,usually referred to as Ann (Nancy was a common nickname for Ann inthose days), married Bernard Brown and eventually settled in Texas.
The wife of Thomas Riney II was Sarah Shircliff, later the wife ofClement Hayden and Joseph Manning. As the widow of Clement Hayden,she was the Mrs. Sarah Hayden who provided hospitality for both theVincentian priests and the Sisters of Loretto while theirestablishments at The Barrens were under construction."

Data from Loren, Riney and Hill. Zachariah came to KY between 1785and 1795 and was supposedly Abraham Lincoln's first teacher.Rineyville, KY is named for him and his descendants. Hill suppliedthis, "Zachariah Riney, uncle of Thomas Riney III, bought a farm in1811 on the Rolling Fork in Washington County, KY, which originallybelonged to Joseph
Hanks. That same year, Thomas Lincoln, father of Abraham Lincoln,moved his family to a farm on Knob Creek about two miles from theRiney home. Zachariah Riney is usually credited with being the firstteacher of Abraham Lincoln. Zachariah went on to live with theTrappist Monks at Gethsemani in Nelson County, KY at the age of 94 anddied there 15 Feb 1859 having lived with them a little more than twoyears.
