All data from McDowell. Katherine Warren of the hamlet of Bures,county of Essex, was sick in body when she made her will 31 Jul 1567;it was proved Jan 1570/1 (ibid., W1/38/6). An abstract follows:
...to be buried in the churchyard of Bures...to the poormen's box 3s.4d....to Julyan my daughter 2 boulsters & 2 beds with allthat [be]longeth to them, both headcloths & ceilings, the one of themin the chamber where I lie & the other in the chamber over it, 2hutches one in the upper chamber & the other in the nether chamberwith all that is in them, a culdron & the poorest brass pot, 2 kettles& all my woolen apparel, a latten chafing dish, a strainer of latten,a postnet, all my hay and straw, a dripping pan of iron, all my pewtersaving 4 platters, a spit, an andiron, all my linen, a frying pan, allthe hangings about my hourse...I give unto John Awnsell my son in law20 lbs. cheese, a pair of quernes, a wennel, a black hog, a littlebrass pot, a little kettle, 3 lbs. & a half of wool & 20s. of moneyand 2 plates. I give to the 2 children of said Ansell, John & Alice,either of them 3s.4d. to Thomas Waryn my son a young cow, a yellow[illegible]erly, the h[illegible]yer, 2 platters, 15s. of money, akettle, 20 lbs. cheese, a half seam vat & a kneading trough, half thecorn of the growing & 3 lb. & a half of wool & the other half I giveto Julyan my daughter. I give to John Waryn my son 30s. of moneywhereof he hath nine of it already in his custody & the great chair &10 cheeses & all the residue of my cheeses I give Julian Waryn mydaughter. I give Thomas Waryn my son a pig, the sow & the shoat Igive unto Julyan my daughter. I give unto Robert Waryn my son 40s. oflawful money of England. I give unto William Waryn & John Waryn thesons of Thomas Warren my son 6s.8d. to be equally divided betweenthem, that is to say, 3s.4d. apiece. I give to Julyan Waryn mydaughter a cubboard, a table & a form, 2 chairs, a round table, acheese press & all that belongeth to the milk house, 2 great troughs &a pair of pails, a half seam vat, a [illegible] & a laten ladle, aclothe basket, a piece of gold of 15s. It should be noted that Katherine bequeathed to and specifically namedfour grandchildren, yet failed to give the names of her own "fouryoung children." Thus, Susan might have been one of these four youngones, or an unmentioned granddaughter.
