Bedford. To summarize the conclusions of aprior study, Henry Sampson was the son of James and Martha (Cooper)Sampson of Henlow and the nephew of Ann (or Agnes) (Cooper)Tilley.Humility Cooper was called a niece of Ann and Marth although
her parentage was not then known. The parents of Ann and Marth Cooperwere Edmund Cooper, Gent., and his wife Mary Wyne, whose marriage isrecorded in the adjoining parish of Arlesey, Co Bedford on 14 August1564. Edmund, The son of Michael Cooper of Arlesey, was baptizedthere 1 December 1542."
It is now possible to trace the ancestry of Edmund Cooper in certainlines to the eleventh century, though not, so far, to establish andconnection with royalty or the higher nobility. The clue which led tothe proof of the identity of his mother, a reference to a deed fromJohn Cowper to John Luke in 1565, was supplied by Mrs. Otis M.Humphrey of West Simsbury, Connecticut, to whom thanks are due. Hispaternal ancestry for three generations can be proved from originalwills and printed deed extracts.
