All data from Knapp. John Knapp and his second wife, Martha, areburied near "Widow's Row", behind and West of New Summer Street[between Broad & Main], behind the "Old Trowbridge Estate". In 1911,Martha (Mead) Knapp's headstone was being used as a coal shute coveron the east side of the estate. John's headstone was uncovered bysome construction workers, in 1890-1895, while repairing the localwater drainage system. The stone of John Knapp reads "Here liesinterred, the body of Captain John Knapp, who departed this life the5th day of April 1749, aged 85 years." Whereabouts of these stonesare unknown at this writing. His second wife, Martha was not a "Weedor Wead" daughter as is found in earlier writings, nor was she a widowat marriage as is also stated in some earlier writings. John'sMilitary service was: Stamford, CT [Militia] -Ensign-1707;Lieutenant-1710; Captain-1716.
