Data from Lewis states that William came to America on the SloopFortune in 1621. Lewis gave Rebecca __??__ as a wife of William's butthis seems to be in error. With this wife Lewis lists the children asAnn, Henry and Bridget. The birth dates given for these children are1625, 1628 and 1630 with the birth place for each as Parham,Somersetshire, England. William's arrival in America in 1621 lendscredence to the error.
In an E-mail dated Mar 4 1999 Goates writes, "We know nothing of hisbackground, but evidence is somewhat strong that he was from Londonsince he had a servant called Carvanyell, an odd surname found inStepney. There are records of marriages between the
Palmers and Bassetts at St. Mary's, Whitechapel, the adjoiningparish. But we have no documents that prove William Palmer's ancestryor his wife's name." Data from Goates is used here.
I have not seen the Will of William Palmer, probated Mar 5 1638/39,but Goates says that it states in part "To Rebecca, my grandchild, andMoyses Rowly, whom I love, . . ." and his "son Henry and daughterBridget"
Lewis says that the will mentions "Sarah and William by my firstwife". Lewis also gives the marriage of William and Frances as about1612 which has not been verified.
