Sallie's son, George Morgan Waters, told John Howard Payne a strangestory concerning his cousin, James Vann, Vann's uncle, Charles Hughes,and Old Chief Sour Mush, all members of the same Clan. [In accordancewith the Cherokee Matrilineal System that means that Charles
Hughes was the Maternal half-brother of James Vann's mother and auntSallie Waters.]
