Ball supplied the following as well as his middle name. VisitedPresident George Washington as Delegate from the Cherokee Nation1791-1792. Captain of the Lighthorse 1810. Member of First NationalCommittee of 1814. Elected Assistant Principal Chief 1828 TRAIL OFTEARS October 01, 1838, 38-04 Detachment - John Benge/G C Lowrey.
He had the Cherokee name which was Agili ("He is rising"), thecontractionof an old Cherokee name Agin-Agili (Rising-fawn"). MajorLowry was one of the great leaders of the Cherokee Nation, during thecritical period of its development as a republic, thirty years thatsaw the establishment of its constitutional government, itsimmigration to the Indian Territory, and its founding as a nationwest. For many years up to about 1820, he was town chief of Willstown,Cherokee Nation (in Eastern Alabama), a position that was hereditaryunder the old tribal form of government. His monument at the NationalCemetery at Tahlequah, reads:"...Erected by order of the NationalCouncil. "Many years member of the Church of Christ. Ruling Elder ofthe Church at Willstown, Deacon of the Church at Park Hill. Hefulfilled the duties of every office well. An honest man, A SpotlessPatriot, A Devoted Christian. "Visited President Washington as adelegate for the Cherokee Nation 1791 or 92. Captain of the Lighthouse1810. Member of First National Committee of 1814. One of thedelegation who negotiated the Treaty of 1819. Member of the Committeewho formed the Constitution of 1827. Also that of 1839. ElectedAssistant Principal Chief 1828 and often afterwards. At his death amember of Executive Council. Filled various other public offices."
