Thomas, James and Stephen Osbourne, who were Daniel's brothers; movedto the Clinch from North Carolina. Stephen settled at Osbourne's Ford(now Dungannon) and Thomas and James in lower Castlewood.
The old log home of James Osb.e is still standing just behind theQuillen home in lower Castlewood and it was in this house he wasliving when his daughter Lucretia was captured and carried away byShawnees. Thomas was killed by some Indians of this area. The attackon the Osbourne family came early on a morning of a very foggy day.Thomas Osbourne went to the door of the home and was shot whilestanding in the door. Lucretia Osbourne, niece of Thomas and daughterof his brother, James, was visiting in the home. She fled the houseand the Indians captured her in a cornfield, Mrs. Minnie Osbourne,wife of Thomas, and Betsy Walls were captured in the house. TheIndians saw that Minnie was lame so they tomahawked and scalped herunder a large honey locust tree that stood well into the memory ofthose living in the area. Thomas and Minnie were buried in the samecoffin. James Osbourne's family after 4 years had given up hope ofLucretia being alive. One day as James' wife gazed longingly down thepath where her daughter had been stolen away; her faith was rewardedfor Lucretia and her new husband appeared.
Lucretia Osbourne was traded by the Indians near Detroit. She wasresquied by a man named Armstrong, who she married. He brought herback to VA, and she told of the killing of Betsy Walls. This tragedyoccurred sometime prior to Aug 17, 1790.
