A Family Reunion, Maysville, Missouri, December 26, 27, 28, 1911
One of the most enjoyable social events of the season was a reunion ofthe Swearingen family and their relatives in this city, December 26,27, and 28. All the members of this family are getting old and someof them have been separated for over twenty years.
In all, the family consisted of twelve children, but one died ininfancy and George died in 1904. Of the ten living, two, JohnSwearingen of Maysville and Albert Swearingen of Crater, Iowa wereunable to attend. Most of the family are now living or at some timehave lived in or near Maysville, and all are held in very high esteemwhere they are known or have ever lived.
OnTuesday, December 26, as prearranged, they all assembled at the homeof Jane and Albert Clinesmith on East Main Street. Many hours werepassed very pleasantly together and a bountiful dinner was served andenjoyed by all.
Late in the afternoon the company, consisting of the six sisters andtwo brothers, their children grandchildren, and great-grandchildrenwent into the yard and had a family picture taken. Then the brothersand sisters were grouped together inside the living room, in front ofthe wall upon which hung a large picture of each the father andmother, George and Mary Ann Swearingen, deceased.
The day was one of great enjoyment and each one assured the host andhostess that their efforts to please and make all happy had not failedand that they were truly appreciated.
In the evening most of the family party went to the home of Mr. andMrs. Orlando Shaver, where a most enjoyable evening was spent. Theywere royally entertained with excellent music and singing.
The next day they were again entertained with a fine dinner at thehome of Mrs. A. Brissy, and the following day they left for theirhomes, all feeling that it had been a great pleasure to have had theprivilege of being together.
