Middle initial, birth, marriage and death data from Gaumer who addsthat Isaiah and Amanda lived in Chautauqua Co., NY until 1859 whenthey moved to IL. Gaumer sent the follow transcript.
The following is a letter written by I.G. Chase to son Henry :
Woodstock March 10th, 1889
Dear Son and Daughter
I will try to write you a few lines. We are about as usual but verytired. Our old friends and neighbors came in on us yesterday. Over 40of them - they gave me a gold
head cane & Mother gold glasses & a willow chair. All day nice. We gota letter from you yesterday .. you think you was slited but it wasnot so. I had always said if I lived to see my fiftieth anniversarywe would have a party but my being sick all winter and mother beingall tired out we talked it over and concluded that we would not tryto do anything about it and settled down at that but a week agoyesterday it was got up.. they came to mother to see what she thoughtabout it .. it was a surprise to me.. I knowed nothing about it tillthey commenced to come at twelve o'clock. Now George sent a postal assoon as he could and as for invitation you all have invitation to myhouse as long as I live at any and all times. Their certainly was notany slight intended. O how glad we all would have been to a had youhere and now if you can come and see us how glad we could be, I havetalked some of coming out there this summer but don't know whether Ishall get strong enough to stand the journey. If I do I could not cometill it is warm weather. By acount this morning, there was 80 insteadof 40.
Ida & George has had a hard time for a week. The hired girl runagainst __(looks like Eadeth) and spilt a dipper of hot water over herface and neck and scalded her face and neck __(espesal ?), then herclothes held the steam so for four days she had to lay in oneposition. The face will not show a scar but the neck will leave somemarks.
They have a lots to do milking forty cows, 20 head of horses and over20 head of young
stock. only one hired man __(?) .Now you must not feel hard towardsthem, they don't have nothing but respect for you. We have not had anysleighing this winter. The going is rough- been just snow enough towet up the roads. I see that you have a vote on constitutionalamendment in your state this season. How will it go -- how do youstand on that subject.
Glenn, I want you to come and see us and bring the girls with you. Iam getting very tired.- shall have to close for this time. I will sendyou a paper with the account of the doings here. So GoodBy for thistime -- we remain as ever
