Data from Dave Brown. Richard's will was dated Apr 28 1696 withCodicil May 2 1696. The will names wife as "Merriam". Lewis suppliedname only.
Paraphrased E-mail received April 1998 from Dave Brown:
Some friends returned from Salt Lake with the information that SamuelForman (Firman) had disposed of his property and returned to OysterBay, Long Island, NY (from whence he had come) in the late 1670's anddied soon after. I followed this up in hopes of finding out more onboth Samuel and Miriam.
From Genealogies of Long Island Families, Vol. 1, p. 473: "RichardHarcurt b. about 1623; died after May 2, 1696 (date of codicil), m.(1) about 1651 or 1652 Elizabeth Potter, b. say about 1635-6, dau. ofRobert and Isabel (Anthony) Potter; m. (2) about 1683, Miriam (Hoyt)Forman, widow of Samuel Forman and dau. of Simon and Susanna (??)Hoyt..."
The article went on to list the ten children of "Harcurt", all fromhis first marriage. One of these is Daniel Harcurt, b. 1658, whomarried Samuel Forman's daughter, Sarah, in 1680. Sarah is listed asborn in 1663, and if so, she would be the daughter of Miriam, asSamuel had married her as a widower in 1662.
Samuel also had another daughter, Mercy, who married Benjamin Birdsallof Oyster Bay in 1681. Without a birthdate for Mercy, it is hard tosay if her mother was Miriam or Samuel's first wife, whose identity isunknow to the best of my knowledge. Samuel may well have had otherchildren. There is a Susannah Forman in the records from Long Island, who I can't identify, but very strongly suspect her to be a daughterby Miriam.
The summary of the will of Richard Harcutt (Harcurt) of Oyster Bay(Long Island Source Records, Abstracts of Early Wills of Queens Co.,p. 135) names wife as "Merriam". The will was dated Apr. 28, 1696 anda codicil was added May 2, 1696.
Samuel, as best I can determine, was the son of Robert and Johanna(??) Forman, who came to Long Island from Holland before 1645, one ofthe many who had left England earlier because of religiousdifferences.
In summary:
Miriam Hoyt (1651-after 05/02/1696), m. (1) Samuel Forman (1636-1680);m. (2) Richard Harcutt (about 1623, England-after May 2, 1696, OysterBay, Long Island).
Robert Forman (before 1610-1671, Oyster Bay), m. Johanna (??). Theyhad at least 3 children, all likely born in Vlessingen, Holland.
Moses, m. Hannah Croker
Aaron, m. Dorothy (??), removed to NJ
Samuel, b. abt 1636, d. 1680 in Oyster Bay, m. (1) unknown; m. (2)Mar. 25, 1662, Miriam Hoyt.
This, while not proven beyond any doubt, has considerable evidence, and the circumstances are very supportive as well.
Samuel witnessed a land deal with the Indians in 1657 while a residentof Hempstead, so he must have been born no later than 1636, andprobably sooner in my view. A possible daughter, Susannah, died in1681, "Forman dau Susannah". I suspect she was named after hergrandmother Hoyt. There are also a John and/or Jonathan, that I can'tplace, but certainly not neccessarily Samuel's.
