[15240] All data from McDowell. Epke spent his entire life in the village ofMinnertsga, Friesland, The Netherlands and the family estate,Jelgersma nearby. Epke had the right to vote in the Landdag, thecounty assembly. Jelgersma was a few miles northeast of the port ofHarlingen. The location of the estate is shown on old Friesland mapsand is described as "lying between the Crossing and the GreatLammerma". This estate probably came from his wife's family. Epkewas, in all probability, the descendent of the nobility, perhaps Saxonnobility. He was wealthy and influential. When Epke died in 1630,his wife Sil, moved to Minnertsga, leaving the running of the farm toher son Cornelius who had bought the inheritance rights from hisbrothers and sisters May 10, 1650.
