Recent information received from theArchivist at the States Archives in Frieslad at Leeuwarde, revealsthat the father of Epke JACOBSE, Jacob EPKES, was signing his name"James EPKES te BONTA" (Jacob EPKES at Bonta) in 1640. This name wasbelieved to be derived from the farm near the Frisian Arum, in whichEpke's grandparents used to have their residence.
Jacob lived at Arum from 1633 to 1636, where he represented the Arumestate in the Landdag. Arum may have been his wife's estate, as Jacobhad sold his inheritance to his brother Cornelius May 10 1650. Jacobwas signing his name, "Jacob Epke at Bonta". This did not reappearfor almost 60 years. Bonta may have been derived from the farm nearthe Frisian Arum, in which Jacob's parents used to have theirresidence. Other derivations of the name vary. In 1650, Jacob wasliving at Boer. He died in 1656, place unknown
