Prominent "Cattle Baron" of Sequoyah Co, OK
Benjamin Franklin Garvin and his sons were among the biggest cattleproducers in the Indian Territory. They had more than 1200 head ofcattle; which ranged from the Boston Mountains of AR west to theIllinois River, north as far as Greasy and Stillwell, and south to thebottom lands of the
AR River. The Garvins owned,rented, or leased much or this land alongwith open range. Mr. Garvin was one of the first trustees of theHanson Baptist Church and a leader among the Cherokees. He was aMason, a member of the Oddfellows Lodge, and a Woodman of the World.
