[504] John's father, Dr. Allen Goodman, was interested in the manufacture ofbilliard tables and in company with Warren Hale. It was in 1861 thatJohn became a member of his father's firm, but several years laterretired and moved to Orange, MA., where he engaged in the pictureframe business. He was also involved in the Gold Medal Sewing Machinebusiness. He sold his interests in the frame and sewing machinebusiness in Orange, MA., and returned to North Dana, MA. In 1876 hebought the billiard table business of his father, and carried onsuccessfully until 1888, and the plant having been destroyed by firetwo or three times, removed the plant to Athol, MA., where hisbusiness continued to expand due to excellent reputation of his goodscoast to coast, and was carried on until his death. Mrs. Goodmanremoved to Boston, where she lived with her daughter 's family, Dr.and Mrs. Leon Tolman on Beacon Street. Mrs. Goodman was a highlyesteemed and well beloved woman, and was well known throughout thecommunity. By faith she was a Unitarian and a consistent worker forthe cause, also a member of Thetis Chapter and a member of the AtholWoman's Club.
