Data from McLeester. According to Huston Swearingen, Chester andEssie were married beside the road, the old Marriana Cutoff, Highway167, in Bay Co., FL by "Old Preacher Grace". See Elizabeth Jerkins. Also according to Huston, Robbie and Chester were divorced and Robbiedied after Chester and Essie Mae were married. This conflicts withdata from The Swearingen Family Tree by Gary Swearingen and DeborahSwearingen Daniels, 1994, which states that Robbie died between Mar.1934 and Dec. 1935. This record also states that Chester was marriedto both of his wives by Rev. J. L. Grace. "They lived in Jackson Co.and Bay Co., FL.....They lived at Bear Creek. In July 1947 this homeburned. It was owned by Bay Co., sheriff Coy Rushing. They then movedto Campflowers Rd. in Bayou George to "Pledgers Place". They alsoshare cropped at another time on Campflowers Rd. for Sheriff Rushing. They had no electricity and a hand dug well for drawing water. This isknown as the "Haunted House". They lived in Hiland Park, then at 730College Ave. and then finally at 316 Bayou Ave. in Springfield.
Besides farming and shipyard work, Chester also delivered fertilizerand owned and operated his own sanitation collection business. He andhis wife attended Springfield Community Church.....
He was a member of the Southeastern Indian Confederacy of Alabama. This certificate was presented to by his niece Evelyn Gardner (hissister Mary Louise's daughter), Chief Squaw. He had Parkinson'sdisease."
