Nathan served in the expedition toward Crown Point in 1756 in Capt.David Waterbury's Co, 4th Regmt in which expedition his brother,Joseph, probably d. He was probably also the Nathan Ferriscommissioned 1st Lt., in the 7th Regmt CT Line under Col. Heman Swift,Jan 1, 1777, although this record has been claimed by a Nathan Ferrisof the Zachariah line. If so, he was cashiered Oct 25, 1777 "formisconduct on Mar to Germantown Oct 4, 1777, the charge being drunkand incapable of doing his duty when the Army engaged the enemy on the4th inst." He reenlisted after Dec 8, 1777 and served under Capt.Elizur Warner. Nathan joined the 1st Congregational Church, Stamford,Jan 22, 1758.

Lewis was drafted for the Civil War on September 22, 1864 as a Privatein Company H, 59th Regiment of the Indiana Infantry. He was musteredout on May 5, 1865 at Indianapolis as a Private. He had a faircomplexion, blue eyes, brown hair and was a carpenter. Birth year fromBoese through Dearborn Co., IN 1850 Census which has his birth placeas IN. Pension Certificate # 595693 dated May 4 1898 for Lewis H.Fielding lists (in his own hand) wife, marriage date, living childrenand their birthdates. Family tradition had been that Lewis died inMarion, Crittenden Co., IN at the Old Soldiers' Home. His deathcertificate gave information used here as well as the street addressof 318 Sandusky St. with Chas. L. Fielding being the informant andthat being his address also. The LDS IGI has the marriage date as Nov10 1853.
