"JULIUS M. FAIRCHILD
Julius M. Fairchild died suddenly of neuralgia of the heart at hishome in New York City, Jan. 15, 1904, in the sixty-eighth year of hisage. He was the oldest son of Daniel Fairchild and Anise (Sheldon)Fairchild, and was born in Willsboro, N,Y, where he spent his youthand early manhood. When only sixteen years old he assumed theresponsibilities of the farm and family while his father for elevenyears was in the gold fields of California. In 1867 he married SarahReynolds of Willsboro. Mrs. Fairchild and daughter Alice survive him.Frank S. Fairchild of Detroit, Mich., a brother, is the only survivingmember of the Daniel Fairchild family. Notwithstanding that nearrelatives are few in number, this bereavement is widely felt.
This genial, warm hearted, large souled, honest man was loved by allwho knew him, and a multitude of friends and relatives, both in cityand country, unite to do honor to his memory and mingle their tearswith those of the desolate household and the distant brother.
Mr. Fairchild went to New York in 1865, and entered the employ of A.M.Sweet & Co., remaining with the firm eighteen years. During the nexttwelve years he carried on business with great success as proprietorof the International Hotel and Restaurant. For the past ten years hehas been a well known operator in Wall Street.
The ups and downs of business seemed to have little effect upon Mr.Fairchild. Quiet, cautious, self reliant, contained--his was acourage that no difficulty dismayed, while his ability to work wasonly equaled by his ability for enjoyment. Cheerful and in excellenthealth, he was sick but a few hours, from what the physicianconsidered a slight attack of indigestion, and died in the arms of hisbeautiful, devoted wife as she administered a simple remedy.
Mr. Fairchild was a man of patrician mould doing honor both in formand character to his worthy ancestors with whom he was laid to rest,Jan. 18th, in the rural cemetery south of Willsboro Falls.
