The announcement of the death of Miss Jennie Hoyt, one of the teachersof the public scholl, made Wednesday morning, Nov. 27, createdprofound sorrow throughout the city and excited deep sympathy for heraged father, brothers and sisters, by whom she was most truly loved.Jennie Marrion Hoyt was born at Rochester, Minnesota, Nov. 14, 1864.She removed with her parents to Minneapolis when a mere child and wasbut seven years of age when the family came to Faribault. She attendedthe public schools and graduated from the high school in 1885. She wasimmediately employed as a teacher, and, with the exception of oneyear, during which she taught in Duluth she has been continuously ateacher in the Faribault schools, in which she has been verysuccessful. At the time she was taken sick she was teaching in theeighth grammar grade of the High School building. About three weekssince, she, with other Faribault teachers, spent several days visitingthe public schools of Minneapolis, while absent she took cold and onTuesaday, Nov. 12, she had to give up her work. A few days laterdiphtheria developed and resulted in death from heart failure at 3:00o'clock Wednesday morning last. The funeral took place Thursdaymorning, Rev. Mr. Rule, of the M. E. church officiating, and theremains were buried in Maple Lawn cemetery. Miss Hoyt was possessed ofa fine mind, most thoroughly cultivated, and was devoted to herposition as a teacher. She was gentle and loving in her disposition,and was the idol of her family and tenderly beloved by many friends.Besides her father, Truman Hoyt, she leaves two sisters, Mrs. NellieG. Bemis, of Faribault, money order clerk in the post office, and Mrs.E. A. Whitney, of Long Lake, Minn., and three brothers, Willis andElmer, of this city, the latter being chief clerk at the post office,and Dr. L. F. Hoyt, the second son, of Jefferson, Iowa, all of whomwere present at the funeral. The teachers in the public schoolsformulated the following resolution and sent a copy to the family: We,the teachers of the Faribault public schools, desire to express ourgrief at the death of Miss Jennie M. Hoyt, one of our number, and toextend to her relatives our deepest sympathy. During the many years ofher service in the public schools she has won the respect andfriendship of all pupils, teachers and parents alike, by her faithful,conscientious work and the continued interest which she has shown foreach one who has come under her care. The schools have sustained asevere loss through her death, and we who have been associated withher have lost a helpful friend and co-worker. It is with deep sorrowthat we add this slight tribute to the many expressions of regretwhich have come from all who knew her. The pupils of Miss Hoyt's roomsent a quantitiy of beautiful flowers, accompanied by the following:We, the pupils of the eighth grade, Faribault Public Schools aresending our regrets for the loss of your daughter and sister - ourmost beloved teacher."
