First Families of Muskingum Co, OH #347-submitted by Gregg AlanKinney. The history of Israel Kinney, contained in the History ofUnion County Ohio, contains the following: "he is a son of Thomas J.and Nancy (Biggs) Kinney, natives of Pennsylvania, who emigrated toOhio in 1808, and settled in Muskingum County. Hisgreat-grandparents, Thomas and Anna Kinney, were residents of NewJersey, and came to Ohio with the family in the above year; theformer lived to reach eighty-nine years of age, and the latterninety-two. The ancestors, as far back as known, were tillers of thesoil."

The obituary of Orestis Israel Kinney (13 May 1870 - 7 March 1937)states: "His forefathers were pioneers in the settlement of thestate. His great, great, grandfather Thomas Kinney came to Ohio,settling on land near the battle of "Fallen Timber," a battle thatdrove the Red Man from Ohio, settling on land that Congress had setapart for the Revolutionary soldiers, three of his sons and theirchildren came with him."
