All known records and possessions ofDaniel Kinney, including his family Bible, are in the possession ofGregg Alan Kinney. Daniel's obituary is reported in the MethodistRecorder, Saturday, October 9, 1889, covers about two columns andcontains a lot of flowery praise. The following excerpts have beentaken from this obituary: The article says he was born in WashingtonTownship, Muskingum Co., OH May 1, 1813, and departed this life inLincoln, NE September 8 1889. In 1838 he was licensed to preach inthe Methodist-Protestant Church, and was appointed to a circuit asassistant, which was three hundred miles around and twenty-sixappointments to fill every four weeks. He was travelling in VA, PAand OH and Muskingum conferences of the church. He was twice electedPresident of the Ohio Conference. He lost an eye, by the explosion ofgas at the Sixth Street Methodist Protestant Church, Cincinnati, fromwhich he suffered greatly. About 1870, he moved to NE, where hetraveled, and served as the President of the Conference until hisadvanced age and bodily infirmities compelled him to retire from theactive itinerancy. He was an anti-slavery man and wrote a chapter onslavery, a strong temperance advocate, and stood with reformers. TheRecorder and his temperance paper were read by him as long as he couldread. His work on sanctification he did not finish. Extracts fromthis work, as well as from his recollections of early life, would beboth instructive and interesting; but he has gone to reap his reward.His last words recoginzed were, "If this is death I soon shall be fromevery pain and sorrow free." He died after an illness of about 8months.
