From a section of "Centennial History of Columbus", pg 465: Aftercompleting his studies in the public schools of Goshen, IN, Arthurremained for a few years and assisted his father in the duties of thefarm. At that time he went to Chicago, IL to work for the Lake Shore& Michigan Southern Railroad for 8 years. Then in 1899 he went towork for Armour & Co. in South Bend, IN, moved shortly after toSandusky, OH for 6 years, until moving to Columbus, OH where hesteadily advanced for 5 years and was made manager of Armouroperations in Columbus. He was prominent in commercial circles notedfor his enterprising business abilities and judgement.
In 1912 the family moved to Dallas, TX, and then to Ft. Worth, TX in1915. There Arthur was made general manager for the Armour PackingPlant. He retired in 1919 after a stroke, and was ill for 9 years.
Arthur was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Ohio, and St AndrewsEpiscopal Church in Ft Worth and was a liberal supporter of thechurch. He was high in the Scottish Rite Masonic Order, and also aShriner.
