Her Obituary -
"Miss Ella M. Reed, only daughter of Mr. C. A. Reed, the veteranbridge builder of the little J. Railroad, by his first marriage, wasborn near Cuba, Sumpter County, Ala., Feby 9th, 1866 and was an earlyvictim of the yellow fever at Harriston, Miss., having died with itafter a brief illness Oct. 2nd, 1898. A hurried burial in the gardenat dead hour of night by a few gentlemen friends disposed of the frailbody for a time at least, the pure spirit safe in the paradise of God;but the influence for good of her short life will continually live onwith widening scope. The last dozen years of Miss Ella's life werespent in Harriston, and we all learned to respect and love the quiet,unobtrusive young lady who could always be counted on the right sideof every question involving the moral betterment and upbuilding of theCommunity. On the organization of the Methodist Church here she wasone of its charter members and remained a faithful, consistent memberof the same during her life without variableness or shadow of turning.She openly and always everywhere professed Christianity and best ofall it was not an empty profession only for she lived it and showed itby daily walk, conversation and conduct.
Being very domestic in her tastes she preferred the quiet duties andhappiness of home to any outside display or pleasure. The inseparablefriend and companion of her step-mother. She literally devoted herwhole time to the care, welfare and happiness of the numerous childenof that happy family. She will be sadly missed in that home circle,and it seems so hard that one so essentially needed by all should betaken away just now, but God makes no mistakes and it is the part ofwisdom to bow in meek submission to His will for He doeth all thingswell.
