Marriage date from Hoyt's Issue Fall 1990. HHH gives her place ofdeath as Park Hill but does not give the state or area. Hickssupplied birth data. According to HHH, "She was a graduate of themission boarding school, and one of the first converts toChristianity. She gave occasion to the composition of Cherokee hymns,which the missionaries had supposed impracticable, by dreaming onenight a paraphrase of the 23th Psalm in rhythm, which she repeated toher father in the morning. He wrote it down in the Cherokeecharacters, and showed it to the missionaries."
She was daughter of Major George Lowry, second chief of the Cherokeenation. Lydia was a graduate of the mission boarding school, and oneof the first converts to Christianity. She composed the first Cherokeehymn, a paraphrase of the 23 Psalm, which her father wrote in Cherokeecharacters. An old record of Brainerd makes special mention of "LydiaLowry, the pious and intelligent daughter" of Chief George Lowry andhis wife, Lucy Benge Lowry. Lydia was sixteen years old when shejoined the Presbyterian Church.
