from Celina Huston - "Young Family Reunion" " Seventy nine descendentsof the James Nicholas and Anna (Radtke) Young family met Saturday atVictory Park for a potluck dinner reunion. The
guest of honor, Mrs. Anna Young, who will be 94 on Sept. 11, broughtthe total attending to 80. The nine children of the family areBenjamin of Marengo, Mrs. Elsie Watson, Mrs. Dorothy Hagemann, Mrs.Caroline Stumpf, Mrs. Elaine Schultz, Richard, Charles "Bob", andJames, all of Albion, and Mrs. Clarence (Evelyn) Hartung of Berkley.
Members of the planning committee were Elaine Schultz, Adeline Young,Verl Young and
Doris Young. They were assisted by their husbands. Mrs. Elsie Watsonoffered the blessing for the meal. The Young family has an interestingbackground. James Nicholas Young's great grandfather, John Young, cameto the U.S. from England. As a youth in Pennsylvania, he watched Gen.George Washington ride past his home. John Young's son, Nicholas, andhis wife, Ann Buck, rode by covered wagon from New York to Ashland,Ohio. Their second son. Charles, the father of James Nicholas, movedto Cleveland and joined the United Baptist Church. While attendingchurch he met a young man named John D. Rockefeller, father of thelate former Vice President Nelson Rockefeller. James Nicholas Youngdied in 1945 at the age of 73. Mrs. Young's parents migrated to theU.S. from Germany. She has lived to see 29 grandchildren, 54 greatgrandchildren and 22 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Young is notedfor her handiwork and just completed a crocheted baby outfit foranother expected great great grandchild. She resides at PeabodyPlace."
