"Charles W. Young joined Bethany Union Church when he was 17. Hegraduated from the Univ. of Ill. in 1897. Received his M.D. from JohnsHopkins in 1903 but spent another year there as resident
house officer. Was married to Olivia Doyle in 1904. The same year hewent out with his wife as a medical missionary under the AmericanBoard to China. Before reaching the station to which
Dr. Young had been appointed, Pao-ting-fu, they received word toreport at Peking, the seat of the government in North China. Herelater, Dr. Young was made teacher and dean of the Union
Medical College. For his notable services in helping to stay theadvance of the pneumonic plague inthe winter of 1911 he was given thedecoration of the double dragon by the Chinese govt.
He also received a medal for distinguished services at the time of theChinese revolution. Returning to this country last year he becameDirector of the Bender Hygenic Laboratory at Albany, N.Y. His deathcame suddenly at his home in Albany, Jan. 25. He is survived by hiswife, a dtr. Anita, an honor student at Mount Holyroke, two sons,James and Wiliam, in school at Albany, his mother Mrs. Mary G. Young,Reedly Ca., five brothers, John H., Kansas City MO, David A. andWilfred S. Beverly Hills, Chicago Ill., James and Benjamin, Reedly Ca.and a sister Mrs. Phillip T. Bennet Garland Mt. Possessing a mostgracious Christian spirit, a thorough training, and completely devotedto his
work, Dr. Young filled his years with marked accomplishment andBethany Union Church today pays tribute to his memeory as to one ofsons and as an able and faithful servant of the Master's
cause. " per Celina Huston- he was the fair haired boy of the Youngfamily. Also did research for the Rockefeller Foundation to helpeliminate some of the diseases over there( in China). He
was the first to use hamsters in his experiments but didn't get creditfor much of his work because just as he was preparing to present hisfindings, he dropped dead..
