As of Aug 25 2001, there is no information that Dr. Harry Evans Pelleis related to Andy in any way,
though I feel he is in some way related to the Gormans. He was bornthe same year as Joseph P. Gorman, Jr. He attended the birth ofJoseph's son, Harry Pelle Gorman, Sr. and attended the death of JosephP., Jr. We do not know (not on Joseph P., Jr.'s death certificate)who Joseph's mother was and speculate it could have been Harry'ssister. I have place Dr. Pelle's wife, Mary Elizabeth, as a child ofJoseph P. Gorman, Sr. as merely a way to detail what is known aboutthe Pelle line.
In the continued search for the origins of the name Andy bears thefollowing has come to light via Judi Meador.
I can tell you the Evans part of Harry's name is probably after Ma andPa Evans, who raised Virginia St. John. I found a slip of paper theday before yesterday in my files. My in-laws gave it to me years agowhen I first became interested in genealogy. I'm going to tell youeverything it says about the Pells. I have Virginia's name asVirginia Howard, but somewhere I remember seeing St. John scribbled ona scrap of paper. I'll look. Virginia had a sister named Jane. Myhusband's aunt
said Virginia used to say she was a Howard from Virginia--could be hermother's maiden name was Howard and her dad's St. John. That wouldexplain why the Virginia Howards I looked at had wrong dates. FlorenzPell had brothers named Arnold and Henry. He and Virginia hadchildren named Harry, Juliet, Walter, Adeline, and Allen as well as myhusband's great grandma, called Granny, but named Elizabeth NortonPell. I'm not sure if Norton is her middle name or if it's Howard. Ihave no idea why she would have been named Norton. Elizabeth NortonPell married John Howard Milward. Maybe I got this mixed up and wrotehis middle name for hers. (They named a daughter, my husband'sgrandma, Harrye--not Harriet.) Either John Milward or his dad camefrom Innes County, Clare, Ireland. I can't find anything about himeasily. He alledgely was in trouble with Irish and was slipped out ofcountry so I'm not sure his name is for real or if there will beimmigration records. Do
you suppose the Gormans and Pelles came on the same ship? We mightget clues about the Pelles from the Filson Club in Lousiville if wesearched Louisville histories. One grandaughter and one grandson ofElizabeth Pelle are living. They don't have e-mail. I may call HelenDurlauf and ask her to tell me more.
I've heard lots of stories about Ma and Pa Evans hiding theConfederate soldiers. Louisville had a Union prison and was Unionalthough KY was supposed to be neutral. You really ought to post whatyou e-mailed me on the forum, so if anyone out there has a connection,he or she will respond.
I'll edit bits of this and post it for benefit of others. By the way,I found your message because I searched for Evans, the middle name ofDr. Harry. I'd like a copy of the death certificates. Did you getthem from from KY Archives? Do you have a scanner whereby you can sendattachments? If so, could you send the certificate? I hope thishelps.
