Death certificate and obituary of Nellie Mae Heustis, daughter. Edwinand wife Laura came from Indiana to Larned, Ks. in covered wagon whenthey had 2 small children. Chased out of Larned by Indians. Went toDodge City, Ford, Ks. by covered wagon. Returned later to PawneeCounty and stayed.

Obituary in Larned Newspaper "Tiller and Toiler" of 29 May 1914
Laura Martha Nichols Heustis was born in Ohio 17 July 1842, anddeparted this life 21 May 1914, at 10 a.m., at the home of herdaughter, Mrs. Julius Grabczewske, with whom she and her husband hadmade their home for the past year. When one year old her parentsmoved from Ohio to Peoria, Ill., where she grew to womanhood. Thenthey moved to Henery, Marshall County, Ill., where she was united inmarriage to Edwin Heustis, 10 August 1859. To this union 8 childrenwere born, 5 of whom preceded their mother to the gloryland. InNovember, 1876 she came to Larned with her husband and children, andhad lived here continuously with the exception of 6 years during whichthey lived at Dodge City. At the age of 15 years she was convertedand joined the Baptist church, and remained faithful to the causeuntil her death. She suffered for several years from heart trouble,but bore her suffering patiently. She was conscious to the last, andbade all her loved ones goodbye with the hope that she would meet themin Heaven where they would be an unbroken family, and sweetly fellasleep in Jesus.
She leaves to mourn her loss her aged husband, one son, D.W. Heustisof 1885 Brighton Ave., Kansas City, Ks., and 2 daughters, Mrs. JuliusGrabczewske, 707 Corse St., this city, and Mrs. Percy Lierle ofWilroads, Ks. All were at her bedside to witness her pass so sweetlyto her home beyond. Saturday, May 23rd, at 10 o'clock a.m., a shortservice was held at the house, (home of her daughter, Mrs.Grabczewske), followed by the service at the Baptist church, conductedby Rev. Morrow. Burial was in the Larned Cemetery. -- BY ONE WHOLOVED HER
