Data from Roth and from Lewis. Early Marriages of Massachusetts Priorto 1800 gives her as Janet and gives the marriage date as Mar. 17,1677.
Preserved documents give us an Articles of Agreement drawn up betweenIsaac Amsden, his wife Jane, and John Amsden (Deacon), their thirdchild, dated May 28, 1727. John's son, Ephraim had been living withIsaac and Jane. They agreed to furnish the boy food and clothing,teach him to read and write and bequeath him at age 21, 40 acres ofswamp and upland situated in Malbrough, and described in theProprietor's Book upon the rights of John Rutter, Jane's father. Thedocument bears the signature of Isaac, Jane's mark, and is signed bythe Justice of the Peace Thomas Howe. Murray M. Brown, SomeDescendents of Isaac Amsden of Cambridge Massachusetts, (1934).
Jane died close to reaching her 80th year.

Data from Roth and from Lewis John came to America on the ship"Confidence" , at 22 years of age, 1638. He was entered on thepassenger list as a servant of Peter Noyes as is Thomas Plympton. Itwas the custom at the time that young able bodied young men offerthemselves as servants to those of greater means in order to make theocean crossing and have their passage paid.
Many settlers from Hampshire, England with agrarian experience,settled Sudbury, Massachusetts. John Rutter was a carpenter, whoseservices were in demand. In 1640 he received about 3 acres ofcommunal land.
John was free to marry by 1641. Two years before, Elizabeth Plympton,sister of Thomas, arrived from England on the ship "Jonathan". Shejoined relatives in Sudbury and married John Rutter.
John had a house and 4 acres of land in Sudbury. He contracted tobuild the first meeting house in 1643 , for which he was paid 6 poundspaid in either corn money, or cattle. Later he was commissioned torepair the Sudbury River bridge , and served as fence viewer twotimes.
He was referred to as Corporal later Sargent, in town records,indicating he helped in surveying and clearing of the land.
Sudbury suffered from Indian attacks. During King Phillip's War adisastrous defeat was delivered to the colonists. Many inhabitantshad homes burned, possessions looted or destroyed by savage hordes.Elizabeth's brother, Thomas was killed in one of these raids.
