He is credited with duty as a captain under Captain David Henchman inKing Phillips war Aug. 20, 1675. He was the proprietor of theOckoocangansett purchase in 1684. Murray M. Brown, Some Descendents ofIsaac Amsden of Cambridge Massachusetts, (1934).
Warnick gives marriage as 1687. Brown gives marriage as Mar. 17,1677.
Lewis gives his occupation as mason.
Issac was about 4 years of age when his father , Isaac the immigrant,died in Cambridge in the year 1659. His younger brother, Jacob was 2years of age. John an older brother, is thought by genealogists to bea half brother, born of the same father, Isaac the immigrant, by aprior marriage. This is the accepted theory today, but no recordshave been found to substantiate this.
Cambridge church records show that Isaac's mother Frances Perriman,the widow of Isaac the immigrant, had both of her sons, Isaac andJacob baptized in 1661. At this time she became a member of theestablished church. In 1663 she married Richard Cutter, a widowerwith eight children.
From the book "King Phillip"s War", by Bodge there are severallistings of Isaac and Jacob, and one of John "Emsden" , all mentionedas being of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Phillip was a member of the Wampanog tribe, youngest son of ChiefMassoit, of Pilgrim fame. Sometime before 1670, relations with theIndians deteriorated and by 1674 Phillip went among the tribesstirring up hostility to the encroachments of the white man. Therewere many small settlements by 1675 along the Connecticut RiverValley. A village would be attacked by the Indians while thecolonists were at church. Buildings and homes were burned and ambusheswere effective in cutting off detached colonists from a largerprotective group.
The struggle was brought to a climax when Phillip formed an alliancewith the Narragansett tribes in Rhode Island and Long Island. Gov.Winslow had gathered 1000 men to invade the territory of theNarragansett, storming their villages and overcoming resistance. By1676, many of Phillip's allies had deserted him. He lost his lifeseeking sanctuary in 1676.

Isaac and Jane moved from Cambridge to Marlborough after their firsttwo children were born. Marlborough was a village lying fairly closeby the road leading from Boston to other settlements. It was oftenunder severe attack from Indian raids . Eight garrisons were builtwhere families were assigned to take shelter in the event of anattack. Isaac Amsden's home was one of these garrisons.
Isaac was a Captain and is credited with duty under Captain DavidHenchman in King Philips War Aug. 20, 1675. He was paid 2 pounds,seven shillings. He was proprietor of the Ockoocangansett Purchase in1684, town clerk, and selectman for 14 years. His name as selectmanappears with signing an invoice which totaled 19 pounds, 3 shillings,3 pence, 4 farthings. Isaac was also Justice of the Peace until theyear 1717. Isaac's birth is recorded in New Cannan, MA Church Records.
He enlisted for 9 months in Apr. 1775 at Conway, MA with Capt. RobertOliver and served to Jan. 1776. He was in the Battle of Bunker Hill..Source for military service is the DAR Index Centennial Edition Part 1p.57. Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the War of the Revolutionp. 229 describes Isaac as a resident of Barre, MA, age 23 years;stature 5 ft. 9 in; complexion light. He participated in theLexington Alarm, Battle of Breeds Hill, Battle of Bunker Hill,Concord, and was present at the surrender of Burgoyne at Saratoga, andCornwallis Oct 19, 1781. Mustered out Dec. 4, 1781. A monumentrecognizing his patriotic service is at his grave site in Seneca,Ontario County, NY. He served under Captain Robert Oliver.Lightfoote, Rodney S., History of the Town of Seneca 1989, (J.T.Publishing Corp. Interlaken, NY).
Isaac is listed as a the rank of Sergeant and his wife Diademareceived his pension. DAR Patriot Index - Centennial Edition, Part 1,pg. 57.
Many of the Soldiers of the Revolution, at the close of that strugglefor independence, settled in this county, and prominent among them wasIsaac Amsden. He was a brave and efficient soldier, and wascelebrated in the army as a marksman and scout. Never stepping fromthe path of duty to avoid danger, he was ever found at his post, andparticipated in the campaign which closed with the surrender ofBurgoyne, on the 17th of October 1777. Prof. W.H. McIntosh, 1876,History of Ontario County, NY 1788-1876, (J.P. Lippincott & Co. NY,1976), p. 145.
Isaac was a farmer, and in 1829 had 40 acres of land worth about$800.00. His war pension application, when he was 74 years of age,mentions his wife Diadema, age 52 at the time, three children stillliving at home. Clarissa age 14, William 12, and Jane 10.
His death date is variously given as Mar 25 1841 or Mar 26 1841.

Isaac was a soldier at Louisberg in 1745, and settled in Conway about1750. A letter that survives, written by Isaac's great granddaughterin 1883, states that he had four children by Sarah, and three byHannah Catlin. There were no dates mentioned , and since the recordsof Conway were all destroyed by fire in 1880 , information was takenfrom histories, pension records, and records from nearby towns.Murray M.
