Charles was twin to Monroe.
The following is from "A Half Century of Minneapolis" edited by HoraceB. Hudson, and published by The Hudson Pub. Co., 1908, pgs. 361-62.
Charles Morelle Amsden was born in Belvidere, Illinois, son of Noah C.Amsden and Sarah Hulbert Amsden, both parents being natives of NewYork. The son's earlier life was in Dubuque, Iowa, from which place hewent to Lamars, and there began active business life in a countrystore, following the vocation of his father. In 1879, like manyenterprising and discerning men, he came to the Star State and settledin Minneapolis, where he has since resided. He engaged in theelevator and grain business, and was associated with the PillsburyCompany. Mr. Amsden had a progressive and aggressive spirit of astout-hearted and intelligent man, who projected the mighty flour milland elevator corporations into what they have developed to be today.Although not numbered as among the early pioneers, he has contributedlargely to the work of buttressing the structure which is rising stepby step by the original foundations. He never married and attendedPlymouth Congregational Church.
