The obituary of Alexander W. Amsden taken from the Athol Transcript ofJune 2, 1885 follows:
Last Saturday afternoon, Alexander W. Amsden, a well known carpenterabout 55, was found dead in Mill Brook just below the dam of John"White Mill". It appears that he had been fishing from the footbridge and he was subject to frequent fits, it is supposed he wasattacked by one and fell off the bridge 12 feet or so into the waterbelow. The water runs rapidly, but is only a few inches deep, andwhen the body was first found by Mr. D.A. Newton it was only partiallyimmersed. The watch on the person of the deceased had stopped at halfpast 2, and it was not till 5:15 that he was found. Medical examinerLynde was called and made the usual inquiry and examination. The bodywas taken by Undertaker Cardany and carried to Mrs. Amsden on SouthMain Street where the funeral was held Sunday afternoon, the remainsbeing taken to North Dana, his birthplace for internment. Mr. Amsdenwas a carpenter of remarkable mechanical skill and ingenuity. MurrayM. Brown, Descendents of Isaac Amsden of Cambridge Massachusetts,(1934)
