From HHH -
David Hoite took the "Oath of Alleagence," at Hadley, Mass., Feb 81678/79; but settled in Deerfield, Mass., as early as 1682.Boltwood, in his Hadley Families, states that he moved from Hatfieldto Deerfield.
When the French and Indians attacked Deerfield, Feb 29 1703/04, he wastaken captive, with his wife and four children. On the way towardsCanada, provisions became so scarce that Dea. Hoyt "perished of hungernear the lower Cohos," in the vicinity of what is now Newbury, Vt.,May or June, 1704. Some of his descendants say that he was compelledto carry a large bundle, and that he must also carry his youngestchild, or see her killed by the Indians; but he fainted under thedouble burden. His widow endured all the horrors of captivity, andreturned to Deerfield. She afterwards m. Dea. Nathaniel Rice, andremoved to Wallingford, Ct.
